The Ministry of External Affairs of India in 2023 stated, 1, 32, 44, 954 international students are pursuing their studies abroad. The appeal to study overseas has not decreased despite the diplomatic relations becoming more heated and immigration laws tightening. There have been several obstructions such as Covid-19 shutdowns, the housing issues crisis in Australia and Canada, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Students are still going overseas in search of better higher education and opportunities.



Previously the Finance and Business courses along with STEM held sway over Indian students but post-pandemic, there has been swift. The finance and business courses along with STEM do hold appeal, but there has been a surge in students opting for Healthcare, Climate, and Technology courses. The top courses for Indian Students from the emerging trend are listed below:


Climatology and Energy Management:  There has been a rise in global awareness about the issues of climate change and global warming. India being an agricultural country at its core has witnessed the damage first-hand. The students are opting for and showing more interest in Environmental Sustainability and Energy Management courses such as Renewable Energy, Biotech and Bioinformatics, and Climatology.




Engineering: Engineering courses have also become popular among Indian students because of the high demand in the job marketplace and competitive salaries worldwide. The students opt for Bioengineering, Environmental Engineering, Web Technology, AI and Machine Learning, and Computer Science Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical).




Healthcare: With the advent of new research in terminal diseases, drug trials, the new technologies being introduced in the healthcare sector, the demand for healthcare professionals is surging worldwide. Indian students are opting for courses in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Medicine, and AI in healthcare.




Business: There are various courses in this branch that students seek but MBA remains a student favourite. Other popular courses are Marketing, Finance, Investment Banking, and Managerial Economics. Various specializations have been made available such as Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Supply Chain Management, Data Science and Analytics, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrency
